Covid Update #11: Back to school, flu shots and Saturdays!
A message from Dr. Lieberman and Dr. Parekh
Food allergies, asthma and back to school:
Please ensure all anaphylaxis emergency care plans (ECP) and epinephrine prescriptions are up to date. If your child has asthma, be sure to check the status of his/her albuterol inhaler and provide your school with an asthma action plan (AAP) if the school requires it. We are happy to complete these school forms and prescribe any necessary refills, provided patients are up to date on their yearly visits. For those who were last seen more than a year ago, consider a virtual telemedicine visit as a follow up appointment.
Here is some useful advice from the AAAAI regarding back to school for those with food allergies during Covid: https://www.aaaai.org/Aaaai/media/MediaLibrary/PDF%20Documents/Libraries/SchoolAllergiesCovid_Final.pdf
Flu vaccine:
We now have the flu vaccine available to all our patients! This is by far the most important year in memory to obtain a flu vaccine. We want to avoid a “twindemic” at all costs. Face coverings and flu vaccines will help greatly. With that in mind, don’t pass on an opportunity to get a flu shot, whether it is at our office, your primary care doctor, local pharmacy, school, or work. If vaccines are available, don’t pass or put it off to a later date. For those with egg allergy, studies show it is safe to receive at the pediatric office or if preferred, it may be given in our office. An appointment is not necessary.
Misc:
As more folks are returning to the office and kids back to school, we will resume Saturday injection hours beginning October 17. All our safety protocols remain in place and we continue to offer in person office visits and allergy shots in a safe manner.
Telemedicine visits are also offered and encouraged. For now, our hours remain the same, Monday – Friday 8-5.
We express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to our loyal patients and families as well as the dedication and teamwork of our amazing office staff. You have all truly helped us through this most difficult and trying time. Stay safe, stay healthy!
