Peanut Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) Update

Peanut Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) Update

At our last update in September 2017, we had four children enrolled. We are pleased to report that we now have 11 patients in active therapy including one 30-year-old adult. We will also enroll our 12th patient this week.

Patient #1 who started therapy in June 2017 has graduated, and is now ingesting 12 peanuts a day! We also have 3 other patients in the whole peanut phase ingesting 2-4 peanuts a day. All of our patients except for one were able to complete the full 10 doses on the first day. One child had an upset stomach and required a reduction in dose.

Unfortunately with such a severe cold and flu season this winter, many children required a dose adjustment along the way, slowing down their weekly progress a bit.

Please give us a call if you or your child are interested in this exciting therapy. We will be enrolling more patients in the upcoming months. The spring and summer are optimal times to begin as there are less respiratory infections and it is easier to manage the weekly visits during school vacation.
