The 85th Texas Legislature has wrapped up, and we are happy to see two bills that Dr. Lieberman and Dr. Parekh personally went to the Capitol to advocate for have passed!
SB579: This bill is similar to SB66 which passed two years ago for public schools. It allows private schools to stock epinephrine auto-injectors for use in case of anaphylatic emergency.
It was signed by into law, effective immediately, by Gov. Greg Abbott on 5/22/2017.
SB1367: Relating to policies and training regarding the use of epinephrine auto-injectors by public institutions of higher education, was signed into law by the Governor on 5/27/2017 and will be effective 9/1/2017.
Unfortunately, SB1101, relating to stocking and using epinephrine auto-injectors in daycare centers, and SB1683 relating to food allergy awareness posters in restaurants did not pass this session.
