Living in Austin, with its rapidly changing weather, high pollen counts, and humid climate, can be especially tough for people who suffer from chronic sinus issues. If you find yourself constantly congested, battling sinus infections multiple times a year, or waking up tired despite a full night’s rest, you may be dealing with a chronic condition that’s affecting your breathing, sleep, and quality of life.

Fortunately, help is available. Dr. Seth Evans, a highly trained and compassionate ENT specialist with clinics in the Austin areas of Kyle, and Leander, offers minimally invasive solutions like balloon sinuplasty to help patients finally find long-term relief.

What Is Balloon Sinuplasty?

Balloon sinuplasty is a non-invasive, office procedure that gently opens blocked sinus passages using a small, flexible balloon catheter. The balloon is inserted into the affected sinus cavity and then slowly inflated, remodeling the sinus opening to improve airflow and drainage.

“It’s really a game-changer for many people,” says Dr. Seth Evans. “They walk in thinking they’re stuck with this problem forever and walk out wondering why they didn’t do it years ago.”

When Is Balloon Sinuplasty Needed?

Balloon sinuplasty is often recommended for patients who have:

  • Chronic sinusitis lasting 12 weeks or longer despite medical treatment
  • Frequent sinus infections (four or more per year)
  • Facial pressure, nasal congestion, and headaches that don’t improve with medication
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose due to blocked or inflamed sinus passages
  • A desire to avoid traditional sinus surgery or general anesthesia

Unlike more invasive sinus procedures, balloon sinuplasty can be performed in the office, with local anesthesia. Patients typically return to normal activities the next day.

“Not everyone needs full sinus surgery,” Dr. Evans explains. “Balloon sinuplasty is ideal for many patients who are seeking relief with less downtime and fewer risks.”

Who Benefits Most from Balloon Sinuplasty?

Balloon sinuplasty is ideal for people who:

  • Have chronic sinus pressure or congestion that never fully goes away
  • Experience recurrent sinus infections that interfere with work, school, or sleep
  • Have tried antibiotics, nasal sprays, and allergy treatments without lasting relief
  • Prefer a minimally invasive treatment with fast recovery
  • Are looking to avoid general anesthesia or hospital-based surgery

For many patients, the results are life changing.

“People come in saying, ‘I’ve had this my whole life. I just thought it would be terrible to get sinus surgery,’” says Dr. Evans. “They’re shocked at how easy it is—and how much better they feel. It’s not something you need to be afraid of.”

Why Sinus Care in Austin Matters

Austin’s environmental factors like cedar fever, mold, and high humidity, make sinus problems especially common in Central Texas. Yet many people suffer for years before seeking help.

“This stuff is common,” Dr. Evans notes. “People assume they just have to live with it, but they don’t. If you’re dealing with chronic sinus issues, it’s worth getting evaluated. You might be a great candidate for balloon sinuplasty.”
